Jails & detention

Anoka County Jails & Detention Centers

Anoka County has two different county correctional facilities: the Anoka County Jail, the Sheriff's primary intake and booking facility, and the separate Anoka County Workhouse for sentenced adults. The court — not either facility — decides bail and release conditions.

Jail Division: 763-324-5100

Sheriff's Office main line (Andover): 763-324-5000

Non-emergency dispatch: 763-427-1212

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail and identifies it as the primary intake and booking facility for all county law-enforcement agencies. The jail mainly houses people who have not been sentenced.

About the Jail
Booking, custody screening, criminal charges and release decisions involve different authorities and procedures. Not every arrest leads to continued detention — some people are cited and released, and the court decides bail and release conditions.
Checking Inmate Custody
The county's official Inmate Locator lists people currently in custody at the Jail and the Workhouse, plus people released from either facility in the past 30 days. The county notes that people may be transferred to another jail to relieve crowding. GPS does not operate the locator.
Bail and Release Information
Before traveling, confirm the person's current facility, whether bail has been set, any court-ordered release conditions, the applicable bond or payment requirements, and whether other holds affect release. Call the Jail Division at 763-324-5100 — not GPS's number — for custody questions.
Sheriff's Office Headquarters
The Sheriff's administrative offices are at 13301 Hanson Boulevard NW, Andover, MN 55304, open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. That is not the jail's address — use 325 Jackson Street in Anoka for the jail.

Good to know

  • The jail is a separate facility from the Anoka County Workhouse.
  • The jail is separate from the Sheriff's Office headquarters in Andover.
  • A booking does not establish a conviction.
  • The public locator can change at any time.
  • Transfers to another jail can change a person's recorded custody location.
  • Other warrants or holds may affect release.
  • The court controls bail and release conditions.
  • GPS Bail Bonds cannot guarantee release and does not operate the jail or its locator.

Criminal Proceedings
Court appearances, criminal filings, hearings, and bail and release decisions follow judicial procedures. A judge may set bail, nonmonetary conditions or other requirements — no outcome is guaranteed.

Court Records
Minnesota Court Records Online provides public access to certain court records. Court case records and the county's custody locator are separate systems.

Bail process

How Bail Bonds Work in Anoka County

A plain-language look at the usual path from arrest to release in Anoka County. Every case is different, and the court makes the decisions.

Read How Bail Bonds Work
  1. 01

    Step 1 of 5

    Arrest and Booking

A person may be arrested by a city police department, a Sheriff's deputy, the Minnesota State Patrol or another agency with jurisdiction. Not every arrest leads to a jail admission — the Anoka County Jail is the county's principal intake facility.

  2. 02

    Step 2 of 5

    Confirm Custody and Bail Status

Use the official Anoka County Inmate Locator, which covers both the Jail and the Workhouse, or call the Jail Division at 763-324-5100. A locator listing does not show final bail terms.

  3. 03

    Step 3 of 5

    Review Available Bail Options

Depending on the court's order, options may include release without financial bail, direct cash bail, an eligible commercial surety bond or other court-ordered conditions. GPS cannot set or change bail.

  4. 04

    Step 4 of 5

    Complete Required Arrangements

A surety bond may require documents, the applicable premium, cosigner commitments, underwriting review and, when necessary, collateral. Approval is never guaranteed.

  5. 05

    Step 5 of 5

    Release and Court Responsibilities

Once bail or bond requirements are met, the custodial facility completes its release processing; other holds can affect release. Court appearances and release conditions remain mandatory.

Posting bail

Posting Bail in Anoka County

Practical answers based on official Anoka County and Minnesota Judicial Branch information. Procedures can change — confirm with jail or court staff before going in person.

  • Who determines bail or release conditions?

The court, or another applicable lawful authority, sets bail and release conditions. The jail, the Workhouse and GPS Bail Bonds do not set bail or release terms.

  • How can a family confirm bail has been set?

Ask Anoka County Jail Division staff (763-324-5100) and check the applicable court orders or records. An arrest alone does not mean a bail amount has been set.

  • Where can direct cash bail be paid?

Confirm the authorized payment location with the jail or the court before you travel. The Minnesota Judicial Branch publishes general criminal bail guidance, but case-specific instructions come from the responsible office.

  • What payment methods are accepted?

Ask the responsible government office for its current accepted methods. Direct cash bail goes to the government; a bail bond company's premium is a separate, nonrefundable fee — and court fines and Workhouse accounts are different transactions again.

  • What identification or documentation is required?

Confirm current identification and documentation requirements directly with the government office accepting the bail before you arrive.

  • Can a bail bond agency assist?

Yes, when the court allows a surety bond. GPS can discuss an eligible surety bond, the applicable filed premium, payment arrangements and paperwork. Approval is not guaranteed.

  • What happens after a bond is posted?

Officials verify the bond, then the custodial facility completes its authorized release processing. The defendant must attend every hearing and follow all conditions.

  • How does jail release work?

Release follows the facility's processing and the clearance of any other holds, warrants or court orders. Timing varies, and no one can promise a release time.

  • What if bail has not been set?

The person may be awaiting a judicial determination, such as a first appearance, or another release process. A commercial bond is not available in every case, and GPS cannot invent or change the amount.

Services

Bail Bond Services in Anoka County

GPS Bail Bonds helps with bonds on many types of charges heard in Anoka County. The court decides release conditions for each charge, and not every case qualifies for a surety bond.

Not every charge is eligible for bail, and no amounts are guaranteed — the court decides in each case.

Costs

Anoka County Bail Bond Costs & Payment Options

Bail costs in Anoka County follow Minnesota law, not a county price list. Under Minn. Stat. §60M.02, a producer must charge the surety's approved filed rate, with a $100 minimum premium. For bonds of $10,000 or less, at least 50% of the premium must be received before posting, and any balance requires a signed promissory note for repayment within four months. For bonds over $10,000, at least 30% must be received, with any balance repaid within twelve months. A receipt is required. These are collection rules — not a promise that a payment plan will be approved, or of financing or release.

Bail Amount vs. Bond Premium

The court sets the bail amount. The premium is a separate fee for a surety bond, based on the rate the surety has filed with Minnesota regulators — not an Anoka County rate or a universal percentage.

What Shapes Your Options

The court-set amount, the surety's underwriting review, its approved filed rate and Chapter 60M's upfront-payment rules all affect what a bond costs and whether a balance may be financed.

Cosigner Responsibilities

A cosigner agrees to financial and contractual obligations tied to the bond, including the defendant's court appearances. Read every document before signing.

Collateral Considerations

Collateral is not required in every case. When it is taken, it must be documented and handled as Minnesota Statutes §60M.03 requires.

Roster vs. release

Anoka County's locator lists current custody and people released in the past 30 days. Check whether a record shows current custody or a recent release — a recent-release record does not mean someone is still held.

A current listing confirms custody, not that release is possible. Holds, court review or a transfer can matter; GPS can explain what a listing means.

Why a Name May Not Appear

A booking delay, a release, a transfer, a different facility, restricted public data or incomplete identifying details can each explain a missing result. A missing name does not prove there was no arrest.

Roster vs. Court Record

The Sheriff's custody records show where someone is held. Minnesota Court Records Online shows certain case information, charges and hearings. They are separate systems — check both.

Jail vs. Workhouse

The Anoka County Jail is the primary intake and booking facility and mainly holds people who have not been sentenced. The Workhouse, at a separate address, houses sentenced adults. Their programs and locations are different.
