- Licensed capacity is a limit, not the number of people held on a given day.
- People held here may be awaiting court or serving a sentence.

Wright County District Court3700 Braddock Avenue NEBuffalo, MN 55313Court: 763-760-6300

Official Jail & Release Resources
Each official source answers a different question:

- Hearings and case records — the District Court.
02 · Booking & custody
Wright County Jail Booking & Custody Information
What happens at the facility after an arrest — from booking to release. For step-by-step help reading the county's reports, see our Wright County inmate search guide.
Arrest & Jail Booking
An arrest and a completed jail booking are not the same event. Booking can involve identity verification, photographs, fingerprints, records processing and custody classification. Release comes later and depends on the court and jail processing.
Confirming Someone Is in Custody
The Wright County Jail Census is the Sheriff's official report of adults currently in custody. It's a downloadable report, not a live name search — each copy reflects the date it was printed. If you can't find someone, call the jail.
Read our inmate search guide →Booking Records vs. Court Records
The Jail Census shows current custody, while recent-booking reports show who was booked. Court records cover charges, hearings and case events. A historical booking entry doesn't mean the person is still in jail, and a listed charge is not a conviction.
Jail Census & Recent Bookings
The county ordinarily publishes these reports Monday through Friday, except holidays:
- Jail Census — adults currently in custody.
- Jail Media Report — adults recently booked.
- Weekly Booking Data — commonly requested public booking information.
- Court Calendar — in-custody adults with court that day.
Transfers & Custody Changes
A person may be transferred, released, held for another agency or moved under a court order. Because the reports are published on weekdays, a report may not reflect anything that happened after it was printed. Call the jail to confirm current custody.
Release Authorization & Processing
Once bail is posted or the court authorizes release, and any other holds are resolved, jail staff process the release. Processing time varies, and no release time is guaranteed.
What If Someone Is Not Listed at Wright County Jail?
Not finding a name in the county's reports doesn't prove the person was never arrested. Common reasons include:
- The booking hasn't appeared in a report yet.
- The person was cited and released.
- The person has already been released.
- The person was transferred.
- Another agency or facility holds the person.
- Public access restrictions may apply.

04 · Inmate services
Wright County Jail Inmate Services & Resources
Practical information about money, mail, property and programs at the Wright County Jail. Each has its own rules and providers, and none of them is a way to pay bail.
Commissary & Inmate Accounts
Money deposited into an inmate's account can be used for authorized purchases and services, and the person can move funds to their phone account.
- Inmate account money is not criminal bail.
- A deposit doesn't post bail or speed up release.
Depositing Money
The Sheriff's Corrections FAQ lists two ways to deposit:
- Online through Inmate Canteen, with a credit card.
- Cash only at the kiosk in the jail lobby — it goes straight into the person's account.
- Paying direct cash bail is a separate process at jail reception.
Sending Mail & Correspondence
Inmate's first and last nameWright County Jail – Buffalo, MN1533 S. 42nd Street, Suite 200Grand Forks, ND 58201Since July 6, 2026, personal mail goes to the Reliance mail processing center, where it is scanned and delivered electronically to the inmate's tablet. The address above is from the county's notice.
- Personal mail sent directly to the jail is returned to the sender.
- Originals aren't returned — they're destroyed after scanning.
- Legal, medical and other privileged mail still goes directly to the jail.
Property & Personal Items
Property delivery, release and allowed items depend on jail authorization. Families can't drop off arbitrary clothing, electronics or other belongings — ask jail staff about the current property procedure before bringing anything.
- The mail processing center doesn't accept books, magazines or newspapers.
Medical Needs, Accessibility & Safety
Raise medical, accessibility or safety concerns with jail staff so they go through the facility's own procedures. The jail states it has zero tolerance for sexual abuse and sexual harassment under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).
- Anyone can report an allegation for an inmate to the Sheriff's Office at 1-800-362-3667.
- Or to the Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center at 320-251-4357.
- For an immediate emergency, call 911.
Work Release, Reentry & Programs
Under Minnesota's Huber law, work release lets some sentenced people keep working at their regular job and return to the jail during non-working hours. The county says it's available at the court's discretion and posts a work-release application.
- Eligibility depends on the court order and jail approval.
- Work release is not an alternative to bail.
- Confirm current program rules and fees with the jail.

05 · Bail & release
Posting Bail at Wright County Jail
The court sets bail. The Wright County Sheriff's Corrections FAQ says direct cash bail is paid at jail reception, and Minnesota Statutes Chapter 60M governs commercial bail bond premiums. Here's how the two paths differ.
Court-Set Bail & Release Conditions
The court decides criminal bail and release conditions — not the jail and not GPS. Before you try to pay, the Sheriff's FAQ says to verify the release conditions and the required bail amount with the jail.
Where to Post Direct Cash Bail
Direct cash bail is paid at Wright County Jail reception, 3800 Braddock Avenue NE, Buffalo, MN 55313. Paying the full cash amount to the jail is a separate process from a commercial surety bond.Official Corrections FAQ (opens an official external site)
Cash Bail Payment Requirements
For direct cash bail, the county says:Confirm the required bail amount and release conditions with the jail first.Bring the correct cash amount to jail reception.Give the cash to jail staff — never to an unrelated third party.Ask the jail about hours and anything else to bring; the FAQ doesn't list them.Jail: 763-684-2381 — confirm the amount and conditions before you go.
Bail Bonds, Processing & Holds
The county recognizes a bail bond company as a separate option. When a surety bond is permitted, a licensed bail bond company posts the bond for a premium instead of you paying the full cash amount. GPS can explain the premium, documents, cosigner role and payment arrangements. A bond doesn't guarantee immediate release — warrants, other agency holds, processing or court conditions can affect the outcome.

- Bonds over $10,000: at least 30% of the premium is collected before posting; any balance is repaid within at most 12 months.
