Monticello Bail Bonds Guide

01 · Why GPS

Why Choose GPS in Monticello

Practical help for a river city on I-94, where policing comes from the Sheriff and the jail and court are in Buffalo.

  • Monticello Area Bail Assistance

An arrest in Monticello can happen downtown, along I-94 or on the Highway 25 corridor. GPS helps families work out which agency was involved, where the person is likely held and what to check next.

  • Available 24/7

Call (763) 288-2581 or send the form any time. The jail, court and county offices keep their own hours, so some steps may have to wait for them.

  • Wright County Sheriff's Office and Court Familiarity

Monticello contracts with the Wright County Sheriff's Office for police service, and custody and court matters run through Buffalo. We point you to the right offices first.

  • Clear Premium and Paperwork Information

We explain the difference between court-set bail and a surety premium, the agreements involved and any cosigner duties before anything is signed.

  • Eligible Minnesota Surety Bonds

When the court authorizes a bond and underwriting requirements are met, GPS can discuss surety options. Not every case qualifies, and GPS does not set bail.

  • Statewide GPS Coverage

Monticello faces Big Lake across the Mississippi, and Big Lake is in Sherburne County. If an arrest happened on the other side of the river, GPS can help with that county's jail as well.

02 · Bail process

How Bail Bonds Work in Monticello

The usual path after a Monticello arrest. Every case is different; the court makes the decisions and no release time is guaranteed.

  1. 01

    Step 1 of 6

    Arrest or Citation in Monticello

A Monticello incident may end in a citation, a summons, or an arrest and booking. Deputies assigned to the city usually respond, though the State Patrol may handle incidents on I-94.

  2. 02

    Step 2 of 6

    Confirm Wright County Jail Custody

Check the Sheriff's Jail Census or call the jail at 763-684-2381. A local arrest does not always mean the person is held at Wright County Jail.

  3. 03

    Step 3 of 6

Verify Court-Set Bail and Release Conditions

Wright County District Court decides whether money bail applies and what conditions go with release. Some people are released without a bond.

  4. 04

    Step 4 of 6

Contact GPS and Review Bond Options

With the custody and court terms confirmed, GPS can explain whether an eligible surety bond is available and what it would involve.

  5. 05

    Step 5 of 6

    Complete Premium, Paperwork and Underwriting

Expect the approved premium, identification, a signed indemnity agreement and, where required, a cosigner or collateral.

  6. 06

    Step 6 of 6

Post an Authorized Bond and Follow Court Requirements

When approved, the bond is posted under the applicable procedure. Holds or jail processing can delay release, so no release time is promised. Every court date and condition must be followed.

Bail Bond Services in Monticello

Each statewide GPS guide explains how bail works for that charge in Minnesota. The same guidance applies to a Monticello arrest.

Not every charge is eligible for bail, and no amounts are guaranteed — the court decides in each case.

05 · Costs

What Bail Bonds Cost in Monticello

Monticello does not have a separate city bail bond premium schedule. Wright County District Court determines monetary bail and release conditions, while Minnesota's filed-rate and statutory rules govern commercial surety premiums statewide.

Court-Set Bail vs. Bond Premium

The court sets the bail amount. Paying it directly in cash is one option. A surety bond instead costs a premium — a fee paid to the bail bond agency that is not returned at the end of the case.
Minnesota Criminal Procedure Rule 6 (opens an external site)

Filed Surety Rates & Minimum Upfront Payment

Under Minn. Stat. §60M.02, premiums follow rates filed with the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Bonds of $10,000 or less require at least 50% of the premium collected before posting; bonds greater than $10,000 require at least 30% collected before posting. Any unpaid premium balance requires the applicable approved, signed promissory note and the statutory repayment terms. The statutory minimum premium remains $100.
Minnesota §60M.02 — Bail Bond Premiums (opens an external site)

Promissory Note & Repayment

Any unpaid premium balance is put in writing, with a payment schedule and any allowed interest. The signer is responsible for that balance regardless of how the case ends. The same §60M.02 rules above govern premium payment.

Collateral & Cosigner Responsibilities

Some bonds require collateral or a cosigner. Minn. Stat. §60M.03 governs how collateral is held and returned. A cosigner may owe the full bond if the defendant misses court.

Monticello Jails & Custody Information

Monticello has no city police department or jail. The Wright County Sheriff's Office provides contracted police service, and the Wright County Jail and District Court are in Buffalo.

  • Locating a Monticello Arrestee

Start with the Sheriff's Jail Census and confirm with the jail. If the arrest happened north of the river in Big Lake or elsewhere in Sherburne County, the person may be in the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River instead.

  • County Jail Booking

Booking at Wright County Jail involves identification, photographs and records processing, so a recent arrest may not show up in jail reports right away. A citation or summons does not automatically mean someone was booked.

  • Official Inmate Search

The Sheriff's jail page links the Jail Census (people currently held), the Jail Media Report (recent bookings — some may already be released), weekly booking data and the in-custody court calendar. They are different records and are not refreshed continuously. GPS is independent of them and cannot change them.

  • Bail and Release Conditions

Wright County District Court may release someone on conditions, set money bail, or both. Conditions such as no-contact or no-alcohol terms still apply after a bond is posted.

  • Cash Bail vs. Surety Bond

Cash bail paid to the county is different from a surety premium paid to GPS. The Sheriff's FAQ says to confirm the bail amount and conditions first; direct cash bail is handled through Wright County Jail reception by jail staff. That procedure does not define how GPS accepts payment.

  • Probation and Other Holds

A probation hold, warrant or another county's case — Sherburne County across the river is a common example — can keep someone in custody after bail is posted on the Monticello case. See our Warrant and Probation Violation guides.

  • Court dates

    Court Appearance Information

Wright County District Court handles cases filed within its jurisdiction and decides bail or conditions of release. Some case details and hearing dates can be checked through Minnesota Court Records Online, but not every hearing appears publicly, and MCRO is not a jail roster or a complete live warrant check. Court records are separate from jail custody information. Release paperwork lists the next court date — every appearance is required. Public court calendars can change, so confirm the person's required appearance directly with the court.

09 · About

About Monticello, Minnesota

  • Monticello sits on the south bank of the Mississippi River in northern Wright County, where Interstate 94 meets Minnesota Highway 25.

  • Police service comes through a contract with the Wright County Sheriff's Office rather than a city police department.
