Buffalo Bail Bonds Guide

01 · Why GPS

Why Choose GPS in Buffalo

Help in the county seat, where a municipal police department, the county jail and the District Court each play a different role.

  • Buffalo Area Bail Assistance

Because the jail and court are both in Buffalo, families here often want quick, clear direction. GPS helps sort out which agency made the arrest and what to check next.

  • Available 24/7

Call (763) 288-2581 or send the form any time. Court and county offices keep business hours, so some steps may wait until they open.

  • Local Police, Jail and Court Information

Buffalo Police, Wright County Jail and the District Court are separate institutions at separate addresses. We explain which one handles which question.

  • Clear Premium and Paperwork Guidance

We walk through court-set bail versus a surety premium, the indemnity agreement and cosigner responsibilities before anything is signed.

  • Eligible Surety Bond Assistance

When the court authorizes a bond and underwriting requirements are met, GPS can discuss surety options. Not every case qualifies, and GPS does not set bail.

  • Minnesota Statewide Coverage

If the arrest involved another county or the person has a hold elsewhere, GPS can help with that jail and court too.

02 · Bail process

How Bail Bonds Work in Buffalo

The usual path after a Buffalo arrest. Every case is different; the court makes the decisions and no release time is guaranteed.

  1. 01

    Step 1 of 6

    Arrest or Citation in Buffalo

Inside city limits, the Buffalo Police Department usually responds; deputies or the State Patrol may handle incidents outside the city or on state highways. The result may be a citation, a summons, or an arrest and booking.

  2. 02

    Step 2 of 6

Confirm Custody at Wright County Jail or Another Facility

People booked after a Buffalo arrest are commonly held at Wright County Jail, 3800 Braddock Avenue NE. Check the Jail Census or call 763-684-2381 to confirm.

  3. 03

    Step 3 of 6

    Verify Court-Set Bail

Wright County District Court, at the Justice Center next door, decides whether money bail applies and what release conditions are attached.

  4. 04

    Step 4 of 6

Contact GPS About Eligible Bond Options

Once custody and the court's terms are known, GPS can explain whether an eligible surety bond is available.

  5. 05

    Step 5 of 6

    Complete Required Financial Arrangements

Expect the approved premium, identification, a signed indemnity agreement and, where required, a cosigner or collateral.

  6. 06

    Step 6 of 6

Follow Jail Release and Court Requirements

When approved, the bond is posted under the applicable procedure. Jail processing or other holds can delay release, so no release time is promised. Every court date and condition must be followed.

Bail Bond Services in Buffalo

Each statewide GPS guide explains how bail works for that charge in Minnesota. The same guidance applies to a Buffalo arrest.

Not every charge is eligible for bail, and no amounts are guaranteed — the court decides in each case.

05 · Costs

What Bail Bonds Cost in Buffalo

Buffalo does not have a separate city bail bond premium schedule. Wright County District Court determines monetary bail and release conditions, while Minnesota's filed-rate and statutory rules govern commercial surety premiums statewide.

Court-Set Bail vs. Bond Premium

The court sets the bail amount. Paying it directly in cash is one option. A surety bond instead costs a premium — a fee paid to the bail bond agency that is not returned at the end of the case.
Minnesota Criminal Procedure Rule 6 (opens an external site)

Filed Surety Rates & Minimum Upfront Payment

Under Minn. Stat. §60M.02, premiums follow rates filed with the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Bonds of $10,000 or less require at least 50% of the premium collected before posting; bonds greater than $10,000 require at least 30% collected before posting. Any unpaid premium balance requires the applicable approved, signed promissory note and the statutory repayment terms. The statutory minimum premium remains $100.
Minnesota §60M.02 — Bail Bond Premiums (opens an external site)

Promissory Note & Repayment

Any unpaid premium balance is put in writing, with a payment schedule and any allowed interest. The signer is responsible for that balance regardless of how the case ends. The same §60M.02 rules above govern premium payment.

Collateral & Cosigner Responsibilities

Some bonds require collateral or a cosigner. Minn. Stat. §60M.03 governs how collateral is held and returned. A cosigner may owe the full bond if the defendant misses court.

06 · Jails & custody

Buffalo Jails & Custody Information

Buffalo has its own municipal police department. The Wright County Jail and the District Court are also in Buffalo, on Braddock Avenue NE — but the police station, jail, court and Government Center are four different places.

Buffalo runs its own municipal police department, separate from the county jail and court. The city says the Wright County Sheriff's Office provides dispatching, including after-hours contact. The police station is not a jail or bail counter, and City Center handles municipal business only.

  • Locating a Buffalo Arrestee

Check the Sheriff's Jail Census first, then call the jail. Being arrested by Buffalo Police doesn't change where the county holds someone — people are held at the county jail, not the police station.

  • County Jail Booking

Booking at Wright County Jail involves identification, photographs and records processing, so a recent arrest may not show up in jail reports right away. A citation or summons does not automatically mean someone was booked.

  • Official Inmate Search

The Sheriff's jail page links the Jail Census (people currently held), the Jail Media Report (recent bookings — some may already be released), weekly booking data and the in-custody court calendar. They are different records and are not refreshed continuously. GPS is independent of them and cannot change them.

  • Bail and Release Conditions

Wright County District Court may release someone on conditions, set money bail, or both. Conditions such as no-contact or no-alcohol terms still apply after a bond is posted.

  • Cash Bail vs. Surety Bond

Cash bail paid to the county is different from a surety premium paid to GPS. The Sheriff's FAQ says to confirm the bail amount and conditions first; direct cash bail is handled through Wright County Jail reception by jail staff. That procedure does not define how GPS accepts payment.

  • Probation and Other Holds

A probation hold, warrant or another county's case can keep someone at Wright County Jail after bail is posted on the Buffalo case. See our Warrant and Probation Violation guides.

  • Court dates

    Court Appearance Information

Wright County District Court handles cases filed within its jurisdiction and decides bail or conditions of release. Some case details and hearing dates can be checked through Minnesota Court Records Online, but not every hearing appears publicly, and MCRO is not a jail roster or a complete live warrant check. Court records are separate from jail custody information. Release paperwork lists the next court date — every appearance is required. Public court calendars can change, so confirm the person's required appearance directly with the court.
