01 · Why GPS

Why Choose GPS for Wright County Inmate Search

Wright County publishes custody reports rather than a live search. GPS can help you understand which report to check, what it does and doesn't show, and whether a legally authorized surety bond may be available. We don't operate the Sheriff's records or decide release.

  • Help Understanding Search Results

The Jail Census, the Jail Media Report and court records each show something different. GPS can explain what a listing usually means for bail and what to ask the jail next.

  • Available 24/7

Arrests happen at any hour — including weekends and holidays, when the county's reports aren't refreshed. Our team answers day or night.

  • Sheriff, Jail & Court Guidance

We can point you to the right office: the jail in Buffalo for custody and cash bail, the District Court next door for case records and hearing dates.

  • Clear Bail Premium Information

If a surety bond is available, we explain the premium under Minnesota law before you sign anything.

  • Eligible Surety Bond Assistance

When the court has set bail and a surety bond is allowed, GPS can help arrange the bond. Release is never guaranteed.

  • Minnesota Statewide Coverage

Some Wright County cities sit on the Hennepin County line, so a person may be held elsewhere. GPS helps families across Minnesota.

Wright County Jail & Custody Information

The Wright County Jail and the Sheriff's Office share one facility in Buffalo; the District Court is nearby at a different Braddock Avenue address. Each handles different questions, so it helps to know which one to call.

Wright County Jail

3800 Braddock Avenue NEBuffalo, MN 55313

Jail: 763-684-2381

The Sheriff's Corrections Division runs the jail, which the county says was built in 2009 with a licensed capacity of 288. The jail confirms custody; the court decides bail and release conditions.

Checking Custody
Start with the Jail Census for people currently held, then call the jail to confirm. Booking, custody, court records and release are handled separately.
Asking About Bail
The Sheriff's FAQ says to verify the release conditions and the required bail amount with the jail before you try to pay.

Good to know

  • Cash bail is processed by jail reception — the county warns not to give your cash to a third party.
  • Not everyone arrested in Wright County is necessarily held here; people may be released, transferred or held for another agency.
  • Procedures can change. Check the official jail page before you go in person.

Wright County Jail Visitation & Inmate Services

Once you've found someone, you may want to visit, leave a message or send money. The jail sets the rules for each, and they can change — always check the official page first.

  • Schedule or Plan Visits

The county posts set visiting periods:

    • Monday–Saturday, 9:00–11:30 a.m.
    • Monday–Friday, 2:30–4:00 p.m.
    • Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
    • No visits on Sundays or listed holidays.
  • On-Site and Remote Visits

On-site visits at the jail are free and held over a monitor.

    • 20 minutes per visit, up to two adults; children allowed.
    • A current government-issued photo ID is required.
    • Remote visits by phone or computer are through Inmate Canteen, at your own expense.
  • Phone Calls and Messages

You can leave a brief message on the jail's inmate voicemail.

    • Inmate voicemail: 763-515-4160.
    • The county says not to leave personal information or phone card numbers.
    • Keep messages brief.
  • Commissary and Inmate Accounts

Money put into an inmate account is separate from cash bail and from a bail bond premium.

    • Deposit online through Inmate Canteen with a credit card.
    • Or deposit cash at the kiosk in the jail lobby.
    • An account deposit does not pay bail.
  • Mail and Property

Since July 6, 2026, personal mail goes to a scanning center and is delivered to the inmate electronically.

    • Personal mail sent straight to the jail is returned to the sender.
    • Originals are not returned — they are destroyed after scanning.
    • Legal, medical and other privileged mail still goes directly to the jail.
  • Transfers, Release and Records

A custody listing can change because of a transfer, a release, a court order or another agency's hold.

    • A report is a snapshot from its print date.
    • Verify current details with the facility holding the person.
    • VINE offers free custody-status notifications, linked from the jail page.

05 · Bail & release

Bail Options After Locating an Inmate in Wright County

Minnesota bail works differently from other states. The court sets bail, Wright County Jail reception processes direct cash bail, and Minnesota Statutes Chapter 60M governs commercial bond premiums.

Court-Set Bail and Release Conditions

A judge — or, for some offenses, a court-approved bail schedule — decides bail and release conditions. Neither the jail nor GPS sets bail. The court may add conditions when bail or a bond is posted.

Cash Bail vs. Surety Bond Premium

Cash bail is the full amount paid to the court system as a promise to appear. A surety bond lets a licensed bail bond company post the bond for a premium — a fee that is not returned.

For direct cash bail, the Sheriff's FAQ says:First verify the release conditions and required bail amount with the jail.Bring the correct cash amount to jail reception.Jail staff process cash bail — don't give your cash to a third party.Confirm hours and anything else to bring by calling 763-684-2381.Official jail FAQs (opens an official external site)

Release Processing and Other Holds

Posting bail or a bond doesn't guarantee immediate release. Jail processing, court orders, and holds or warrants from other agencies can delay or prevent release, and GPS cannot guarantee release timing, eligibility or financing.

Minnesota Bond Premium Rules

  • The court sets the bail amount — not the jail and not GPS.
  • The premium follows the rate the surety has filed and had approved in Minnesota.
  • The statutory minimum premium is $100.
  • Bonds of $10,000 or less: at least 50% of the premium is collected before posting; any balance is repaid within four months.
  • Bonds over $10,000: at least 30% of the premium is collected before posting; any balance is repaid within at most 12 months.
  • Any balance needs a signed promissory note. No financing or payment plan is guaranteed.
