Why Choose GPS in Dayton

Help for a river city with its own police department, where custody and court can fall in Hennepin or Wright County depending on the case.

02 · Bail process

How Bail Bonds Work in Dayton

The usual path after a Dayton arrest. Every case is different; the court makes the decisions and no release time is guaranteed.

  1. 01

    Step 1 of 6

    Arrest or Citation in Dayton

Dayton Police are the city's law enforcement agency, though another agency such as the State Patrol may respond on I-94. The result can be a citation, a summons or a custodial arrest.

  2. 02

    Step 2 of 6

    Confirm Agency and Custody Facility

A Dayton arrest doesn't by itself tell you the jail. Confirm whether the person was booked into Hennepin County Jail, Wright County Jail, or released.

  3. 03

    Step 3 of 6

    Verify Court-Set Bail and Conditions

Hennepin County District Court or Wright County District Court — whichever has the case — sets money bail and release conditions. Confirm through official records.

  4. 04

    Step 4 of 6

    Contact GPS About Bond Options

Call (763) 288-2581. With custody and the court's terms known, GPS can explain whether an authorized surety bond is available.

  5. 05

    Step 5 of 6

    Complete Bond Requirements

The approved premium, a receipt, identification, signed agreements and, where required, a cosigner, collateral and underwriting review.

  6. 06

    Step 6 of 6

Post the Bond and Follow the Court

The bond must be accepted and processed by the facility holding the person. After release, every court date and condition must be followed.

Bail Bond Services in Dayton

Statewide GPS guides for families researching bail options after a Dayton arrest, whether the case is in Hennepin or Wright County. They are not a ranking of local offenses.

Not every charge is eligible for bail, and no amounts are guaranteed — the court decides in each case.

05 · Costs

What Bail Bonds Cost in Dayton

Dayton has no separate city bail premium schedule. The district court handling the case — Wright County or Hennepin County — determines monetary bail and release conditions, while Minnesota's filed-rate and statutory rules govern commercial surety premiums statewide.

Court-Set Bail vs. Bond Premium

The court sets the bail amount. Paying it directly in cash is one option. A surety bond instead costs a premium — a fee paid to the bail bond agency that is not returned at the end of the case.
Minnesota Criminal Procedure Rule 6 (opens an external site)

Filed Surety Rates & Minimum Upfront Payment

Under Minn. Stat. §60M.02, premiums follow rates filed with the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Bonds of $10,000 or less require at least 50% of the premium collected before posting; bonds greater than $10,000 require at least 30% collected before posting. Any unpaid premium balance requires the applicable approved, signed promissory note and the statutory repayment terms. The statutory minimum premium remains $100.
Minnesota §60M.02 — Bail Bond Premiums (opens an external site)

Promissory Note & Repayment

Any unpaid premium balance is put in writing, with a payment schedule and any allowed interest. The signer is responsible for that balance regardless of how the case ends. The same §60M.02 rules above govern premium payment.

Collateral & Cosigner Responsibilities

Some bonds require collateral or a cosigner. Minn. Stat. §60M.03 governs how collateral is held and returned. A cosigner may owe the full bond if the defendant misses court.

06 · Jails & custody

Dayton Jails & Custody Information

Dayton Police handle municipal law enforcement, but the city has no jail. Dayton lies in Hennepin and Wright counties, so don't assume every Dayton defendant is held in Hennepin County or every case belongs to the Fourth Judicial District — confirm the county from the case.

  • Locating a Dayton Arrestee

Neither the police office nor City Hall holds detainees. For Hennepin County, use the jail roster or call the number below; for Wright County, check the Jail Census, then call 763-684-2381.

  • County Jail Booking

Booking — at Wright County Jail in Buffalo or Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis, depending on the case — involves identification, photographs and records processing, so a recent arrest may not appear right away. A citation or summons does not automatically mean someone was booked.

  • Official Inmate Search

The Sheriff's jail page links the Jail Census (people currently held), the Jail Media Report (recent bookings — some may already be released), weekly booking data and the in-custody court calendar. They are different records and are not refreshed continuously. GPS is independent of them and cannot change them. Wright County's reports do not cover Hennepin County custody; Hennepin County publishes its own jail roster. Jail records, court records and warrant information are separate systems.

  • Bail and Release Conditions

The court handling the case — Wright County District Court or Hennepin County District Court — may release someone on conditions, set money bail, or both. Conditions such as no-contact or no-alcohol terms still apply after a bond is posted.

  • Cash Bail vs. Surety Bond

Cash bail paid to the county is different from a surety premium paid to GPS. Each county jail has its own procedure for direct cash bail — confirm the bail amount, conditions and payment rules with the facility actually holding the person. Those procedures do not define how GPS accepts payment.

  • Probation and Other Holds

A warrant, probation hold or another county's case can keep someone in custody after bail is posted on the Dayton matter. See our Warrant and Probation Violation guides.

  • Court dates

    Court Appearance Information

Dayton cases can be filed in Wright County (Tenth Judicial District, Buffalo) or Hennepin County (Fourth Judicial District — Brookdale for applicable suburban nonfelony matters, downtown Minneapolis for many felonies). The court handling the case decides release conditions. Confirm the filing court and hearing details through official sources such as Minnesota Court Records Online — it is a court-record system, not a live jail roster, and calendars can change or omit confidential proceedings. Release paperwork lists the next court date, and every appearance is required.

Anything you've been told — even partial details help.
