01 · Why GPS

Why Choose GPS in Hanover

Help for a river community split between Wright and Hennepin counties, where two Sheriff's Offices — and two jails and courts — may be involved.

  • Hanover Bail Assistance

Hanover contracts with both the Wright and Hennepin County Sheriff's Offices. GPS helps families figure out which one responded and which county's custody records to check.

  • Available 24/7

Call (763) 288-2581 or send the form any time. GPS is available around the clock; City Hall, the jails and the courts keep their own hours.

  • Sheriff, Jail & Court Guidance

The Sheriff who responded doesn't settle everything — the jail and the court follow the case. We explain the Wright pathway in Buffalo and the Hennepin pathway in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center.

  • Clear Premium & Paperwork Guidance

Court-set bail, filed surety rates, what must be collected before posting, receipts and the agreements you sign — explained before anything is final.

  • Eligible Surety Bond Assistance

Where the court authorizes a bond and underwriting is satisfied, GPS can discuss surety options and qualifying payment terms. Approval is never automatic.

  • Minnesota Statewide Coverage

Wright County, Hennepin County or anywhere else in Minnesota — GPS can help with the jail and court involved. GPS has no office in Hanover.

02 · Bail process

How Bail Bonds Work in Hanover

The usual path after a Hanover arrest. Every case is different; the court makes the decisions and no release time is guaranteed.

  1. 01

    Step 1 of 6

    Arrest or Citation in Hanover

A Wright County or Hennepin County deputy — depending on the side of the county line — or another agency may respond. Some situations end in a citation or summons rather than a custodial arrest.

  2. 02

    Step 2 of 6

    Confirm Agency and Custody Facility

Ask which Sheriff's Office made the arrest, then check whether the person is listed at Wright County Jail, Hennepin County Jail, or neither. The city name alone doesn't settle it.

  3. 03

    Step 3 of 6

    Verify Court-Set Bail and Conditions

Wright County District Court or Hennepin County District Court — whichever has the case — sets money bail and release conditions. Confirm through official records.

  4. 04

    Step 4 of 6

    Contact GPS About Bond Options

Call (763) 288-2581. With custody and the court's terms confirmed, GPS can explain whether an authorized surety bond is available.

  5. 05

    Step 5 of 6

    Complete Bond Requirements

The approved premium, a receipt, identification, signed agreements and, where required, a cosigner, collateral and underwriting review.

  6. 06

    Step 6 of 6

Post the Bond and Follow the Court

The bond must be accepted and processed where the person is held. After release, every condition and court date must be met.

Bail Bond Services in Hanover

Statewide GPS guides for families researching bail options after a Hanover arrest — the same Minnesota rules apply in Wright and Hennepin County. Not a ranking of local offenses.

Not every charge is eligible for bail, and no amounts are guaranteed — the court decides in each case.

05 · Costs

What Bail Bonds Cost in Hanover

Hanover has no separate city bail premium schedule. The district court handling the case — Wright County or Hennepin County — determines monetary bail and release conditions, while Minnesota's filed-rate and statutory rules govern commercial surety premiums statewide.

Court-Set Bail vs. Bond Premium

The court sets the bail amount. Paying it directly in cash is one option. A surety bond instead costs a premium — a fee paid to the bail bond agency that is not returned at the end of the case.
Minnesota Criminal Procedure Rule 6 (opens an external site)

Filed Surety Rates & Minimum Upfront Payment

Under Minn. Stat. §60M.02, premiums follow rates filed with the Minnesota Department of Commerce. Bonds of $10,000 or less require at least 50% of the premium collected before posting; bonds greater than $10,000 require at least 30% collected before posting. Any unpaid premium balance requires the applicable approved, signed promissory note and the statutory repayment terms. The statutory minimum premium remains $100.
Minnesota §60M.02 — Bail Bond Premiums (opens an external site)

Promissory Note & Repayment

Any unpaid premium balance is put in writing, with a payment schedule and any allowed interest. The signer is responsible for that balance regardless of how the case ends. The same §60M.02 rules above govern premium payment.

Collateral & Cosigner Responsibilities

Some bonds require collateral or a cosigner. Minn. Stat. §60M.03 governs how collateral is held and returned. A cosigner may owe the full bond if the defendant misses court.

06 · Jails & custody

Hanover Jails & Custody Information

Hanover contracts with both the Wright County and Hennepin County Sheriff's Offices and has no police department of its own. Don't assume every Hanover arrest goes to Buffalo or Minneapolis — the case, not the city, decides the jail and court.

  • Locating a Hanover Arrestee

Which Sheriff responded is a clue, not proof of where someone is held. For Wright County, check the Jail Census, then call 763-684-2381; for Hennepin County, use the roster or call the number below. Hanover City Hall cannot confirm custody.

    Hennepin County Jail information: 612-348-5112

  • County Jail Booking

Booking — at Wright County Jail in Buffalo or Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis, depending on the case — involves identification, photographs and records processing, so a recent arrest may not appear right away. A citation or summons does not automatically mean someone was booked.

  • Official Inmate Search

The Sheriff's jail page links the Jail Census (people currently held), the Jail Media Report (recent bookings — some may already be released), weekly booking data and the in-custody court calendar. They are different records and are not refreshed continuously. GPS is independent of them and cannot change them. Wright County's reports do not cover Hennepin County custody; Hennepin County publishes its own jail roster. Jail records, court records and warrant information are separate systems.

  • Bail and Release Conditions

The court handling the case — Wright County District Court or Hennepin County District Court — may release someone on conditions, set money bail, or both. Conditions such as no-contact or no-alcohol terms still apply after a bond is posted.

  • Cash Bail vs. Surety Bond

Cash bail paid to the county is different from a surety premium paid to GPS. Each county jail has its own procedure for direct cash bail — confirm the bail amount, conditions and payment rules with the facility actually holding the person. Those procedures do not define how GPS accepts payment.

  • Probation and Other Holds

A warrant, probation hold or a case in another county can keep someone in custody after bail is posted on the Hanover matter. See our Warrant and Probation Violation guides.

  • Court dates

    Court Appearance Information

Hanover cases can be filed in Wright County (Tenth Judicial District, Buffalo) or Hennepin County (Fourth Judicial District — Brookdale for applicable suburban nonfelony matters, downtown Minneapolis for many felonies). The court handling the case decides release conditions. Confirm the filing court and hearing details through official sources such as Minnesota Court Records Online — it is a court-record system, not a live jail roster, and calendars can change or omit confidential proceedings. Release paperwork lists the next court date, and every appearance is required.

  • Date of Birth or Approximate Age

Shown in jail records. Not required to start.

  • Jail, Charge, Court or Bail Info, If Known

Anything you've been told — even partial details help.
